A regular switch only works from the wall. A smart switch still works from the wall, and it also answers the app, a voice assistant and a saved scene.

That is useful when you want the whole floor to switch off at the door, or the living room to drop to a dim evening scene. Glass touch panels with scene buttons are the version most families find easiest.

The upgrade is worth it in the rooms you use every evening. It is less important in a store room you rarely enter.
